Death Stranding 2: On the Beach has taken a meaningful step forward on Steam Deck with the release of patch 1.5. While the game was already labeled as Verified, earlier versions struggled to maintain stable performance, particularly in later sections.
With this update, the experience is now much closer to what players expect from a handheld playthrough.
Testing shows clear improvements across the board. Areas that previously dropped to around 15 FPS now run closer to the mid-20s, and many sections are able to stay above 30 FPS more consistently. While it’s not a perfectly locked experience, the game no longer suffers from the severe slowdowns that made progression frustrating.
The update also helps justify the Verified rating. Before patch 1.5, performance issues made that label feel questionable. Now, the game can be played from start to finish on Steam Deck without major technical barriers, making the rating far more accurate.
Beyond performance, patch 1.5 introduces several quality-of-life improvements. Steam Input support has been refined, controller prompts are clearer, and UI responsiveness has improved. Visual upgrades in cutscenes, including better lighting and facial detail, also contribute to a more polished presentation.
For Steam Deck users, this update changes the conversation. Death Stranding 2 is no longer a game that “technically runs”—it’s one you can realistically enjoy on the device.
It still doesn’t deliver perfectly stable performance at all times, but it has reached a point where it feels reliable and playable throughout the full experience.
